On Gaming and Biological Signal Analysis: Game Type Recognition and Player Engagement Assessment
In the presentation, we discuss smart games (specially designed computer games aimed at improving cognitive, motor, or emotional skills in patients with various conditions such as ADHD or anxiety; smart games find application in medical and psychological therapy), affective programming (software that can recognize, interpret, and respond to human emotions), and the use of biological signals (heart rate, respiration rate, galvanic skin response) as well as eye tracking. We demonstrate how machine learning and deep learning can help us gain a better understanding of a player's real-time engagement and cognitive activity. The results can be applied to develop smart games (e.g., for attention deficit therapy) that incorporate a feedback loop based on biosignals
