Nuclear Energy in Central Asia: Regional Aspirations and Global Stakes
Expert Seminar | September 4-5, 2025 | Warsaw, Poland
Organized by The Opportunity Institute for Foreign Affairs

Central Asia is experiencing a growing interest in nuclear energy as countries across the region seek stable, sustainable solutions to meet rising energy demands. Against this backdrop, The Opportunity Institute for Foreign Affairs is pleased to host a two-day closed-door seminar that will explore the multifaceted dimensions of nuclear development in the region—from political strategy and energy security to public trust and international partnerships.

This high-level roundtable will bring together leading experts in nuclear energy, international relations, and Central Asian affairs to address critical questions such as:

  • What drives the region's nuclear ambitions despite its rich natural resource base?
  • How do partnerships with actors like Rosatom shape regional dependencies, or strategic choices?
  • What role can non-Russian players (such as China, the EU, or the U.S.) play in nuclear development?
  • How do historical legacies and environmental concerns influence public perception?

Sessions will examine the geopolitical implications of nuclear cooperation, infrastructure and planning challenges, and the social and ecological considerations that shape the region's nuclear future. Discussions will take place under the Chatham House Rule to foster open and candid dialogue.

Post-Seminar Report:
As the number of available seats is limited, following the seminar, The Opportunity Institute for Foreign Affairs will publish an in-depth analytical report summarizing the key findings, insights, and strategic takeaways from the discussions. This report will be available for purchase on our website: www.theopportunity.pl. It is intended for policymakers, industry professionals, and researchers seeking a deeper understanding of the nuclear energy landscape in Central Asia.
