Exploring Human Rights Artivism (Art + Activism)
🇬🇧Throughout the globe, there has been a resurgence of an art form known as zines. Zines are small magazines, often handmade or digitally created, that are devoted to specialized subjects. People frequently make zines about a wide variety of issues, including art, books, science, sports, travel, recipes, and politics. As part of this workshop, we will explore the world of zines, and specifically how they are used as a tool for human rights artivism. Together, we will also have a chance to reflect on what is important to us and both individuals and members of a community. Participants will learn about the history of zines and how to create their own zines. We will also have an opportunity for participants to get started on a zine which focuses on a human rights issue that is most important to them. After this workshop, the intention is that participants will leave with an artistic tool they can use within their own communities, so that they can continue to create spaces for others to share their own voices. Participants will also learn a few quick, art-based exercises they can share with others to encourage creativity within their own communities. No matter what your artistic skill level is, come prepared willing to listen, create art, and learn something new!
