Lublin - the Renaissance town on the hills
16th and the first half of 17th century used to be one of the greatest time for Lublin history and its development. Once the town of Lublin was one of the most important commercial and administrative centers of Poland and Lithuania. In the first half of 16th century King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Sigismund I the Old decided reconstruction of Lublin Castle in the very modern architectural Renaissance style. The other important date is 1975. In this year the great fire occured destroying almost the gothic architecture of the Old Town. Despite the tragedy it was a good time for Lublin. The town had enough money to rebuild it from rubbles. Some of the very talented architects, among them Italians had an opportunity to rebuilt the town into a beautiful modern Renaissance style. The town also attracted famoust poets, writers and artists. To this day, we can admire the beautiful Renaissance Lublin Old Town that is located on several picturesque hills.
