Rebelion - music against communism
Rebelion - music against Communism.
When I guide guests from all over the world, they are very impressed by the fact that the United States, in supporting the anti-communist opposition, did not send guns to Poland, but coping machines!! These primitive photocopiers of the time for printing leaflets and literature from the second, and sometimes even third and fourth circulation were a powerful tool in the fight against communism in Poland.
It was the same with music. I have been talking about the global phenomenon of Polish jazz from the 50s and 60s for many years. As a result, people who had never heard of our beautiful country before, later buy records with Polish jazz and become their fans.
For 10 years, I have been involved in the popularization of Polish cinema by running the oldest English-language film club in Poland. The film I have been talking about for years and firmly believe to be the best Polish film (not to be confused with the most famous) is key to the narrative of this exhibition. That is why I am all the more delighted to share these fascinating stories with you!
Overall, I have been giving guided tours of Nowa Huta for almost 15 years, so I was doing it before it was fashionable! I remember when 10 people came to the curatorial guided tours of Nowa Huta's architecture, not 200 like recently. The PRL is my parents' history, partly also my own, I visited museums about this period in several Central European countries, I absorbed a huge amount of materials, I discussed this topic for hundreds of hours with guests from all over the world. These discussions very often very strongly undermined my "typically Polish" attitude and view of the rightly bygone system. However, this experience was invaluable, to better understand the world of my childhood from a more objective perspective.
At the beautiful exhibition in the Communist Republic of Poland Museum, "Rebellion in the System. Musical Spaces of Freedom 1945-89" combines my two passions and topics in which I have specialized for years: the history of the Polish People's Republic and culture, especially Polish jazz, which is why I am very excited to be guiding my 51st thematic tour there
This the last tour at this exhibition before the end of it on Feb 23rd. Also the enitre building is going to be renovated and closed for a few years.
See you at the exhibition!
